Welcome - Why I have chosen to become a social studies teacher
You will find my messages in fragments or long flows, because that is how the world unfolds itself for me, in patterns, solids, patches and stitches.
Here, I will reveal my revelations and revivals of teaching and theory of teaching civics, history, economics, and geography. Probably some other stuff as well, but as of now, I don't know what I don't know.
I'm learning how to help my learners hold truths, contradictions, questions, and hypothesis. I was a student and through social studies I began to think of the world and people in different term than what had existed in my family culture, that was the gift of education, I'd like to continue giving that gift to little me's and students who will enter the adult world hopefully more prepared. It isn't polished, it's pieced together and that's the point.

Your patchwork metaphor and your authenticity is so delightful, my toes are curling. Truly, one of the images I frequently entertain is that of a frayed piece of fabric. It is along these frayed edges that we connect with others. Neat and tidy bindings don't invite connection and, if we want to attach, we have to pick the edges open. Yep, it makes me appreciate that the best things in life are messy.
ReplyDeleteGobsmacked! Your beautiful play on words is so lovely and truthful...the thought process and to be honest teaching can be in fragments or long flows..."patterns, solids, patches." oh how clever and what a play on words!
